Karan Sharma writes and edits the guides on Yojana Disha. The work is mostly unglamorous: taking a government process that is technically public but hard to follow, working out what actually happens at each step, and writing it down so that someone can repeat it without paying anyone for help.
The focus is on what rural readers get stuck on in practice. Finding one household in a panchayat list that runs into thousands of rows. Working out why a payment shows as paid but never reached the bank. Understanding what a change in the law means for the card already in your pocket. These are small problems that cost people real days of work, and most of them have a plain answer that nobody has bothered to write down.
What these guides cover
The subjects are chosen by what people are actually stuck on, not by what is easy to write about:
- Job cards: applying, checking the list, corrections, deletions and eKYC.
- Work and wages: demanding work, attendance and the muster roll, wage rates, payment status, unemployment allowance and delays.
- The change in the law: what the VB-G RAM G Act altered on 1 July 2026 and what it did not.
- Rural and urban housing under PMAY, which most readers reach through the same panchayat office.
- Complaints: where to go, in what order, and what to carry.
How a fact is checked
Every rule, rate and date on this site goes through the same test before it is published. The full version is in our fact-check policy, and the short version is this:
- Rules and figures come from the government portals and from Ministry of Rural Development notifications, not from other websites summarising each other.
- Numbers that change, such as wage rates, are marked as indicative and readers are told to confirm the live figure on nrega.dord.gov.in.
- Where a figure is missing for a state, the previous year's number is not quietly substituted. The page says the current rate is not confirmed.
- Each guide carries an updated date, and pages are revised when rules, rates or portal screens change.
What is deliberately left out
This section matters more than a list of credentials, because it is the part you can check against the site yourself. These are real things a reader might expect to find here and will not, because they could not be confirmed:
- Report codes for the portal beyond the handful that could be verified. A previous draft contained a full table of them, written from convention rather than from the portal. Several were wrong and two did not exist, so the table was removed before it was published.
- A rupee figure for delay compensation. The entitlement is explained; the rate is not stated, because no reliable current source was found for it.
- The state-wise dates of the 60-day agricultural pause. These are set district by district and are not published in one place, so the guide sends readers to their panchayat instead of guessing.
- The exact income and asset thresholds that exclude a household from PMAY-G. Some were relaxed in 2024 and a stale threshold could wrongly convince someone not to apply.
- Any end date for the validity of an old job card. Aggregator sites carry one; no government source was found for it.
- Arithmetic that no source supports. Some households are entitled to extra days beyond the guarantee, and those rules were written when the guarantee was 100 days. It is now 125. Nothing states how the two combine, so the guides do not add them up.
Mistakes made here, and fixed
Every site claims accuracy. Fewer will tell you where they got it wrong, so here are four:
- Several hundred near-identical location pages were published, each generated from a place name with nothing specific to that place. They were removed in August 2026 and are not coming back.
- The state pages had the same problem one level up, largely one template with the name swapped. They were taken out of search until they carried genuinely different content, which cost real traffic and was still the right call.
- A safety note told readers to check that a portal address ended in one government domain, but the employment portal now sits on a different one. The advice would have pushed readers away from the real site. It now names the portal directly.
- The wage calculator kept quoting a stale rate for two places whose current rate could not be confirmed, contradicting what those places' own pages said. It now leaves them out and explains why.
What this author does not claim
Karan Sharma is a writer and editor, not a government officer, and holds no position in any department. Yojana Disha is an independent website with no affiliation to the Ministry of Rural Development or any state government, and no official is answerable for what is published here.
Nothing written here can create a job card, add a name to a list, correct a record or release a payment. Only your gram panchayat and the official portal nrega.dord.gov.in can do those things, and all of it is free. If anyone asks you for money in exchange for a government service, that is wrong, and you can complain on the MGNREGA helpline 1800-111-555.
Corrections
These pages are read by people chasing wages and benefits they are owed, so an error here can cost someone money. If you find something out of date or wrong, please report it through the contact page. You do not need to explain who you are or prove anything to do it. Reports are checked, and where the mistake is real the page is corrected and its updated date changed.
A reader who has just been through the process at their own panchayat usually knows before we do, which is why these reports are worth more than they sound.
