By Ravi Prakash · Updated 18 May 2026 · 5 min read
Where to complain
- Your gram panchayat or gram rozgar sahayak, for everyday issues.
- A written complaint to the Block Development Officer or Programme Officer, for unresolved problems.
- The national helpline for guidance and to register a complaint by phone.
- The central public grievance portal, to file and track a complaint online.
The toll-free MGNREGA helpline is 1800-111-555. You can also raise grievances online at the government's public grievance portal.
What you can complain about
- Wages not paid, or paid late beyond the 15-day rule.
- Work not given after a written demand.
- Wrong attendance or muster roll entries.
- Anyone asking for money for a free service.
Make your complaint strong
Keep it specific. Note your job card number, the dates, the work, and what went wrong. Attach copies of any receipts. A clear, dated complaint is far harder to ignore than a vague one.
