How the wage is decided
The Ministry of Rural Development notifies a daily wage for each state, usually before the financial year starts in April. The rate is linked to price changes, so it tends to rise a little each year. Because the cost of living differs across India, the figure is not uniform.
VB-G RAM G replaced MGNREGA on 1 July 2026, and brought an interim wage notification outside the usual April cycle. It set a national floor of Rs 300 a day, so every state that was earlier below that was raised to at least Rs 300, and states already above it also got an increase. The national average rose from about Rs 298.8 to Rs 327.4 a day.
Highest and lowest rates
Since the July 2026 revision, most states sit at or near the Rs 300 floor. A smaller group of states pay noticeably more, and a few high-altitude or special areas within a state have their own separately notified rate higher than the state's general figure.

Notified rate aur asli mazdoori mein fark kyun hota hai
यह सबसे ज़्यादा पूछा जाने वाला सवाल है। लोग देखते हैं कि उनके राज्य की rate मान लीजिए ₹300 है, लेकिन खाते में उससे कम आया। इसका मतलब हमेशा घोटाला नहीं होता।
MGNREGA में मज़दूरी अक्सर किए गए काम की माप पर तय होती है, सिर्फ़ हाज़िरी पर नहीं। यानी अगर तय मात्रा में काम पूरा हुआ तो पूरी rate मिलती है, और कम हुआ तो उसी अनुपात में मज़दूरी बनती है। ज़मीन सख़्त हो, मौसम खराब हो, या group में कुछ लोग कम काम करें, तो पूरे group की average माप कम बैठ सकती है।
इसलिए notified rate को अधिकतम समझें, न कि हर हाल में मिलने वाली रकम। अगर आपको लगता है कि माप गलत ली गई है, तो यह Junior Engineer और rozgar sahayak से पूछने वाली बात है, और muster roll में दर्ज माप देखी जा सकती है।
Apni kamai ka hisab kaise lagayein
मोटा हिसाब सीधा है: आपके काम के दिन गुणा आपके राज्य की daily rate। जैसे अगर rate ₹300 है और आपने 20 दिन काम किया, तो लगभग ₹6,000 बनते हैं। असल रकम काम की माप के हिसाब से थोड़ी कम या ज़्यादा हो सकती है।

- दिन गुणा rate करके अंदाज़ा लगाएं

If your wage is paid late
Wages are due within 15 days of the work being completed. If payment is delayed beyond that, the law entitles you to a small compensation for each day of delay. Keep your work records and raise the delay with your gram panchayat or through the grievance route.
मुआवज़े की गणना देरी के दिनों और बकाया मज़दूरी पर होती है, और यह record में अपने आप जुड़ना चाहिए। मौजूदा दर और गणना का तरीका अपने rozgar sahayak या Programme Officer से confirm कर लें, क्योंकि इसमें समय समय पर बदलाव होते रहते हैं। दावा करते समय muster roll और payment report की तारीख़ें साथ रखें।

Why is the wage different in each state?
The central government sets a separate rate per state, linked to price changes, so the cost of living in each state is reflected.
Is the wage the same all year?
Usually yes, revised once a year around April. 2026 was an exception: VB-G RAM G brought a special interim revision on 1 July 2026, outside the normal cycle, when the scheme itself changed.
