How the wage is decided
The Ministry of Rural Development notifies a daily wage for each state, usually before the financial year starts in April. The rate is linked to price changes, so it tends to rise a little each year. Because the cost of living differs across India, the figure is not uniform.

The exact numbers change yearly, but the pattern is steady. States and UTs like Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh sit at the top of the range, while some northeastern states sit at the lower end. Most large states fall somewhere in between.

Wages are due within 15 days of the work being completed. If payment is delayed beyond that, the law entitles you to a small compensation for each day of delay. Keep your work records and raise the delay with your gram panchayat or through the grievance route.
